9ice set to drop new album "Versus"

Tradition, Abolore Akande's third album, was released in December 2009 and he's already done with a follow-up, called Versus. The album features 9ice versus a different artiste on each track.

Abolore Akande has reportedly taken solace in music after his much publicised crashed marriage recently. Those who should know stated that 9ice has completed 13 tracks, which are expected to be released with the album entitled Versus.

Further investigation conducted by Klieglights showed that 9ice, who has been working on the album while he completed his current album, Tradition, worked with various Nigerian artistes from Da Grin to M.I and thus decided to title the album Versus - meaning 9ice versus other Nigerian acts. 9ice, who has been sampling some of the songs on the just concluded album, said through his manager, Ola Dehinde that the album is expected for release before the end of next month. Though it is unsure if this is as a result of the alleged low sales in the much anticipated album, Tradition, close aides said that 9ice has over 50 songs in his kitty and could afford to release three albums consistently.

Some of the tracks on Versus are "Sarafawe - 9ice Vs M.I", "Loni Ni: 9ice Vs Dagrin", "Atamatase 9ice VS Mode9".

Wale Adenuga raises the bar

One of Nigeria’s brightest producers, Mr. Wale Adenuga, is set to trigger a positive revolution in the production of quality celluloid films in the country with the acquisition of modern production equipment.

Adenuga, who has continued to dazzle television viewers across the country and beyond with such drama series like Papa Ajasco and Company, Superstory, ThisLife and Binta, My Daughter, said the days of wishy-washy film productions are over.

“There have been so much criticisms about most productions being churned out by some producers. We cannot continue to fold our arms and watch. That is why some of us have to step in to correct this,” he stated. Among the modern equipment currently acquired by Adenuga include the latest Panasonic high definition P2 camera with 35mm Redrock adapter, location monitors, Kino lights, Arri ballast lights, audio mixer, Tiffen filters, mobile cranes, among others.

As soon as the equipment, which gulped millions of naira arrived the country from the United Kingdom last week, Wale Adenuga productions hit location with the cast and crew , shooting a film, which he said will be the talk of the town.

Adenuga, who is still keeping the title of the film under wraps hinted that the story itself “is unique and we assembled top role interpreters in the acting world to give life to it.”

Sade Adu returns .. sales .5m units of new CD in one week

An army of fans more than 500,000 of them went out to support Sade’s latest CD, “Soldier of Love,” giving the group their first No. 1 disc in 20 years.

Soldier of Love” sold 501,665 units in its first week, debuting on top of the Billboard 200 album charts, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The CD is the follow-up to their Grammy-winning album “Lovers Rock,” released in 2000. The group is led by 51-year-old Sade Adu (ah-DOO’).

It’s been 10 years since her last album, a fatal hiatus for almost any other artist, but just another hibernation for a woman whose disdain for fame only deepens our fascination. Sade’s voice sounds unchanged, a unique emotional instrument that conjures visions of rain-streaked windows and windblown streets. Her topics love, loss, sorrow, strength remain the same. But her music has still moved forward.

The aggressive title track makes a bold statement, its stabbing drums continuing the bass-heavy direction of her 2000 release, “Lover’s Rock.” Some of the new album’s 10 songs are classic, smooth Sade. But there’s also a country twanger, a reggae-tinged ode to father who are not husbands, even Sade’s first uptempo number since 1992’s “Kiss of Life.”

This is only the sixth album in 25 years for Helen Folasade Adu, born in her father’s Nigeria and raised in her mother’s England. She is still working with her original three bandmates: bassist Paul Denman, guitarist and saxophonist Stuart Matthewman, and keyboardist Andrew Hale. She is still mysterious, ageless and defiant.

“I only make records when I feel I have something to say,” Sade says on her Web site. “I’m not interested in releasing music just for the sake of selling something. Sade is not a brand.”
