Tyler Perry named highest paid in entertainment
It’s not a surprise that Steven Spielberg, Jerry Bruckheimer and Tiger Woods feature in a new list charting ‘entertainment’s highest paid men’, but you probably won’t guess who is number one.
It’s, err, Tyler Perry, most famous for playing a fat, sassy old grandma in the ‘Madea’ film franchise.
Last year he was number 6 in the list, compiled by Forbes, but this year jumped to first place after earning a jaw-dropping $130 million (£82 million), thanks to royalties from the ‘Madea’ series and takings from his latest films 'For Colored Girls' and 'Why Did I Get Married Too'.
As well as directing ten films since 2006, and starring in most of them, Perry's sitcoms 'Meet the Browns' and 'House of Payne' have proven lucrative. We can't say he doesn't work hard for his bumper paycheck.
Just behind him on the list is Jerry Bruckheimer; the producer of 'Pirates of the Caribbean' and a load of US TV. He netted an estimated $113 million (£72 million).
In third place was the ever-present Steven Spielberg, who pocketing around $107 million (£68 million) thanks to a slew of box office successes, including 'Super 8', 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon' and 'True Grit'.
Brits in the list include Elton John, who pops up in 4th place with $100 million (£63 million) and Simon Cowell; in at 5th with a paycheque of $90 million (£57 million).
Strangely, the only actor to feature is Leonardo DiCaprio, who clocks in at 9th place with earnings of $77 million (£49 million).
Forbes got the info by speaking to agents, lawyers, producers and other insiders.
