Akon hints at collaboration with Tuface Idibia

The past one week has seen music fans and followers across the country leaping and spinning since it became official that American hip hop star, Kanye West, has signed Nigeria’s own D’Banj to his G.O.O.D Music label.

The next few weeks will see them bobbing and weaving as it has emerged that another Nigerian music royalty, Tuface Idibia,is working on a collaborative album with Senegalese-born American hip hop star, Akon. This was made public early Sunday morning by Akon, who posted on his twitter account:“Me and @2faceidibia working on a master plan in Atlanta. The world is ready. African Connection.” Later, he posted a picture of himself and Tuface to underscore the duo’s commitment to the project.

Though there iss no official statement from Tuface’s management on the proposed collaboration, We gathered that Akon and Tuface, who had been acquainted long before now, decided to go into the studio together recently in apparent respect for each other’s talent. Akon is the owner of Konvict Music which has among other artistes, multiplatinum selling pop queen, Lady Gaga.

Akon is also not new to Nigeria or her music stars. Since 2004 when his debut album became long term chart domination, he has been a regular fixture at some of the biggest concerts in Nigeria. There has not been a year in the last seven years that Akon didn’t come to Nigeria some times for even private shows. In fact, at some point, former Plantation Boiz member, Faze, had boasted that Akon’s Konvict Music had signed him on until the latter dispelled the rumour, claiming there was no such deal.
