Brandy, The Game to perform at Project Fame Gala

There are so many reasons to look forward to this year’s Project Fame West Africa. Apart from the fact that some youths will be thrust from poverty and obscurity to prosperity and popularity, the opening gala holding this Sunday at the Expo Hall of Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos, will feature two American artistes - rapper, The Game, and R n B songstress, Brandy. Joining them are D’banj and past winners of the music reality television show, Iyanya, Mike, Chidinma, Praiz.

A Grammy awards-winning singer, Brandy has been a major force in the American music scene with a rich catalogue of seminal hits. Jayceon Taylor, otherwise known as The Game, on the other hand, rose from the violent Crip gang neighbourhood, Compton, California, teenage years of hardship and gang-banging, a near-death experience after being shot five times to become one of the major forces in today’s rap music. While this is not Game’s first time in Nigeria, having been here in 2008 at the first MTV Africa Music Awards in Abuja, it would be Brandy’s first. And she’s ecstatic about it.

A statement from the organisers quotes the 32-year-old singer as saying “I will be performing at the MTN Project Fame Opening Gala. It’s going to be fire, as it is my first time in Nigeria. I will see everybody there.”

The General Manager, Consumer, Marketing, MTN Nigeria, Kola Oyeyemi says, “MTN Project Fame Season 4 is going to be a landmark event as the company is out to ensure that Nigerians are going to experience one of the most memorable moments in the history of musical performances and reality shows in Nigeria. MTN is using this year’s show to further reinforce its leadership position in the youth market. The show is bringing world class artistes to open a new season of a world class show which will discover talented singers that will eventually excel on the world stage.”

More than just a talent competition, MTN Project Fame West Africa will see 18 lucky contestants from across West Africa competing for the 15 slots available in the Academy for 10weeks, meeting and performing alongside their favourite stars who will be conducting exclusive master-classes, sharing their wisdom and tips for success, and out-singing one another for the top prize of a brand new RAV 4 Jeep, cash prize and continental fame. Viewers will follow follow day by day, the behind-the-scene progress of the contestants in their quest for fame.
