Corporate sponsors for Yoruba film
Law Union and Rock Insurance Plc, a Nigerian Insurance company, has demonstrated support for the Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood, by throwing its weight behind the production of a Yoruba movie, ‘Aya Alaya'.
According to a brief from Total Films, the production house behind the film, "The insurance company decided to support the movie because it celebrates Nigerian women."
In addition, "recognising the fact that good content movies are veritable tools to preach social and moral rejuvenation, the company sees its support for the production of the movie as part of its corporate social responsibility."
The brief also reveals that this development is a good omen for Nollywood, and it is hoped that more corporate organisations will follow suit.‘Aya Alaya' is the story of a woman whose aura turns around the fortune of any man that comes her way. Things go awry in her first marriage when she is set up by a girl who is desperate to get her husband.
How she survives is what makes the movie intriguing and compelling. The movie parades actors and actresses including Funsho Adeolu, Doris Simeon, Mosun Filani, Femi Oriyomi, Lizy Anjorin, and Baba Suara.
According to Femi Oriyomi, one of the actors in the movie, "What Law Union and Rock Insurance has done, by supporting the production of ‘Aya Alaya' is what we have been clamouring for in Nollywood. We hope other companies will [emulate this] kind of gesture and give more support in form of commercial endorsement and sponsorship of our movies."
