Award-winning guitarist, musician and song writer, Jeremiah Gyang will host the inaugural edition of The African Poet reality television show. According to Silas Joseph Onu, the executive producer of the show, the Jos-born artist was chosen for his artistry and wide acceptance.
“He is a great lyricist and a master of spoken words,” Onu said. “His songs reflect his poetic nature and above all, his strong connection with the youth and Nigerians.” Speaking on the show, Onu revealed that it is aimed at improving young Africans’ interest in literature.“The African Poet reality TV show is a conscious drive towards reviving the African literary heritage,” Onu explained. “It is aimed at empowering African youth through creativity and exceptional presentation and communication skills which rewards excellence.”
The winner of the show will cart away N5 million while other contestants will also receive consolation prizes ranging from N50,000 to N1 million depending on how far they go in the competition.The African Poet will be a 15-week long reality show with 32 participants and will hold in Abuja. Auditions will begin in August and will cut across the six geopolitical zones holding specifically in Enugu, Lagos, Port-Harcourt, Kaduna, Jos and Abuja.
